Airport Food Revolution

I’m old enough to remember the early days of airport dining, and airline food. It was never particularly tasty, and it was expensive. Once, while on a business trip in Austin, Texas, I stopped for lunch at funky café and bought an amazing bagel sandwich. Worried that I was running late for my flight home, I took the sandwich to go. When I boarded my flight and unwrapped my sandwich, I could see the looks of longing from the others, who had to settle for the mystery item they were about to be served.

That was waay back when they served food for free. But now, well, now, the menu for in flight food is pretty impressive.

On a recent WestJet flight from the US, I noticed I could get a cheese plate with red wine. They also had an olive tapenade. And in the departure lounge in Tampa, my son got a pizza, – like one of the best pizzas ever, according to him.

2015-10-07 13.03.28I’m impressed.  It’s about time.  And while it is not cheap to eat at the airport, the higher quality of the food justifies the price. And like all other aspects of travel, why shouldn’t your airport experience be enjoyable?

I’m looking forward to my next flight, to see what other food adventures we can find.
