Trial and Error, aka the food wars….

Something happened to my kid when he turned 8 years old.  First, his teeth started falling out (finally), and then he had a choking incident during lunch at school, combined with a case of strep throat.  All three things happened within a few short weeks, well, the choking and strep happened together.

The result was a child who was afraid to eat food – it started naturally with the strep throat.  Sore throat meant lots of soups and yogurts and soft food.  Then came other foods.

It seemed as if he would spend all of his time just not eating, closely examining everything.

If this ever happens to you, don’t do what I did – don’t get upset, don’t make it a big deal, and just keep things as normal as possible.  Because, he did eventually start eating all the things he once enjoyed.  Even popcorn, the one food he said he would never eat, is now back on his list of good treats.

Ok, there is one casualty, lettuce remains one of those foods that he really just doesn’t want.
