Where have all the bees gone? #BringBackTheBees

When we see them, we duck for cover. They come into our gardens and scare our children – most people don’t see bees as friends but did you know how important the buzzing little bugs really are?

Bees do more than the negative we know, they have thrived for over 50 million years! They are helpful and hardworking!  Bees help our food supplies by spreading pollen that our crops need to grow. This includes many of your favourite foods like apples, almonds, coffee and our favourite, honey!

So, why have bee colonies recently started dying? Where are our bees going? According to renowned bee expert Marla Spivak, professor of Entomology at the University of Minnesota, there are a range of threats to Canada’s bee population and among the biggest are the elimination of flowering plants and ground cover in urban and rural areas.

That sounds awful but there is something you can do to help! Together with Honey Nut Cheerios, we can plant new flowers and help #BringBackTheBees!

Honey Nut Cheerios is giving away free wildflower seeds packs and encouraging people to request theirs on the website. With everyone’s help we can reach the goal of planting over 35 million wildflowers. This initiative can go a long way toward helping the bees in their natural habitat!
