Goodbye summer, did I enjoy you as much as I should have?

Every year I say the same thing on the final weekend of the summer. Wow, that went fast! It isn’t as much a longing for it to last long, but more about did I get the most out of it? We had fun, we did some day activities in the city, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it was that was missing. Is it perhaps my perspective? Maybe I need to realize that every summer doesn’t include a European vacation (although that might be nice!). I spent the summer visiting with family who live away, and hosting other family who live away. I spent relaxing evenings with my elderly parents enjoying their garden in the late evening twilight. I walked around my neighbourhood after our late evening dinners.

We played mini golf – an annual family activity that still resonates with my teenager. And we continued our family game nights at the cottage of great grandma’s Chinese checkers.

So maybe it wasn’t a summer of misses, or competing with my friends who seemed to be on vacation the entire summer. Maybe I just need to focus on the things we had the great pleasure of doing, versus always worrying about what we didn’t get done. Glass half full summer memories is what I need to do.

And besides, I ended the summer winning our final family challenge of Chinese checkers! What’s not to love about that memory!2015-09-06 10.26.00
