Teamwork, focus, respect, self-esteem, pride, success, friends for life – these are just a few of the things that kids experience when they play sports. These are valuable life lessons, and lay the foundation for well adjusted, confident, successful adults. And it is essential that ALL kids are allowed to enjoy the benefits of playing sports, without any fear of being judged or excluded simply based on their sexual orientation. It’s long overdue, and the fact that we need to raise awareness makes me realize how much more work needs to be done. It’s amazing that the Toronto Maple Leafs have launched an annual awareness day, that will allow @Youcanplay to set up and engage with the sports fans who are also a part of the solution.
The Maple Leafs are proud to partner with You Can Play to ensure the safety and inclusion of all in sports – including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and fans. You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team’s success. You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skills, work ethic, and competitive spirit
Also, The Toronto Maple Leafs donated funds to You Can Play to ensure that they can continue to meet their goals.
